Our Staff's Story: Minna Hicks, NIC

Headshot of Minna Hicks
Medical Project Manager and VRI interpreter Minna Hicks is held to the highest standard of our BIS team. She acts as an advocate for our "profound services" outwardly in the community and remotely.

Raised as a CODA (Child Of Deaf Adults) in North Carolina, Minna now raises her own three children in Virginia. Some may say it was an innate task to go into the interpreting field, as her sister is also deaf.

Minna has been interpreting professionally for 32 years, and even owned her own agency for ten. Today, she has experience interpreting in settings ranging from medical, to government, to education. "I enjoy interpreting because I get to meet a lot of different people, and I get to experience new things," says Minna.

Nationally certified by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Minna shares her contagious passion for what she does.

"I go out into the community to interpret… work in VRI, and market to hospitals and medical professionals in the community".

But the best part of working for BIS? Minna says her most rewarding experience was interpreting for a mother giving birth to her newborn child!

"You can say that I have done it all," a satisfied Minna says.

Coworkers agree that Minna carries an energy of professional eagerness to expand herself as an individual along with BIS!
